A Maximalist Vintage Tour

A Maximalist Vintage Tour

If you've been following me for any amount of time, you might have noticed: I LOVE OLD STUFF! It's National Old Stuff Day, so there's no better time to take a vintage tour!

I can't say that I've always loved old/retro/vintage treasures, but I know for sure it was in full effect by the time I turned 15. Exhibit A: My birthday cake, 1999.

I was in full blown hippie mode. I was so disappointed that no one bought me a 1999 Volkswagen New Beetle for my 16th birthday! Rude! (S.N.: I have no idea why I thought anyone could afford buying me a brand new car. I guess I've always been a dreamer.!) I would go on to write my senior year essay on Woodstock. I like to think my love of history also includes historic stuff!

I'm always at a thrift store and I love hitting up estate sales. While I usually won't let myself go wild at an estate sale, there have been a few things I just couldn't pass up! I also love estate sales for any random vintage thing. I love midcentury packaging and design in general. I've gotten some vintage recipe booklets, maps, and local informational pamphlets. I'm not picky when it comes to vintage. In my 'collection' I have vintage: books, fabric, dishes, magazines, furniture, sewing patterns, a brass crawfish and...and...and...this could take a while.

Anyway...

BEHOLD! MY STUFF!

Packaging:

I had to make myself stop buying things just because I like the packaging. I really appreciate good design no matter the era. But there's just something about Mid-Century packaging!

Alphacolor Pastels // Thrift Store

Because, how could I pass up vintage art supplies?!

They're so pretty!

Kleencut Pinking Shears // Thrift Store

Look at those fonts! 😍

Lady Remington // Thrift Store

Someone stole the shaver, but I only wanted it for the packaging.

Books:

I'm surprised I don't have more vintage books. I know I have more than these two. Of course, I don't know where they are.

Little Women 1955 // Inherited

She's a little worse for wear.

The Four Seasons: Japanese Haiku Second Series 1958 // Inherited

I love the cover illustration of this one.

Furniture:

Having a small house is the only reason I don't have more vintage furniture! I have three large pieces, but these are the only two photos I had readily available.

Contour Cuddler Lounge Chair 1960s // Estate Sale

Apparently, these chairs were marketed at "The Ugly Chair" at some point. How dare! I knew I had to have it the second I saw it. These were made 3 optional features: reclining, heat, and massage functions. Mine is reclining only. It lives in my studio.

I love it so much, I drew it.

Harmony House Lowboy Dresser // Marketplace

I definitely researched this when I bought it in 2020, but I don't remember any of the details.

Other Random Things :

Most of my vintage stuff would probably go in this category.

Sears Merry Mushroom Enamel Cookware 1970s // Estate Sale

I really dig mushrooms.

Kellogg's Rice Krispies Enamel Recipe Box 1980s // Thrift Store

This one has some recipe cards with it.

The Secret of Creole Cooking  // Estate Sale

Surprise no one! I like vintage illustrations. I especially love regional vintage.

Midcentury Tapered Salt and Pepper shakers  // Thrift Store

I haven't been able to find any information about these.

The Finale:

My pyrex, duh!

A whole bunch of Vintage Pyrex

This collection is 14 years in the making. They have come to me from all over: thrift stores, flea markets, gifts, Craigslist, Marketplace, and estate sales! This isn't my entire collection. I have a few pieces I keep in the kitchen for daily use.

It used to be organized.

I hope you enjoyed this tour of my cool stuff! I'm always willing to talk shop about vintage. Feel free to leave questions!
